Chapter Eight

Harper woke the next morning sandwiched between two large men in an unfamiliar bed. She couldn’t remember how they’d made it to the bed, and it didn’t matter. What she did recall was the extraordinary sensation of having two men on top of her, one inside her and the other inside him. There was synergy and connection between the three of them, a beautiful bond she never thought could possibly exist between people, let alone experience for herself. It was almost magical how the link added another layer of depth and light to her life. She could finally see the full-color spectrum and wondered how she’d missed the beauty of it before.

Harper took a moment before fully waking up to watch them sleep, enjoying the way their muscled chests rose and fell with each breath, their lungs working like bellows. Flynn slept on his back and snored a little, interspersed with short, quiet snorts like bursts of lightning. One snort sounded like it had a musical cadence to it, and she had to bite her bottom lip to keep from laughing. If she ever got the chance, she would video him in sleep. He looked almost puppy-like in his somnolent innocence.

Theo was silent, on his side facing her with an arm underneath his face. He slept on a single thin pillow, which had pretty much slipped away during the night. Despite having spent the night with both Harper and Flynn, he looked inexplicably lonely. She thought, not for the first time, of all the pictures in his apartment, either solitary or with his parents. She was tempted to ignore her complaining bladder and curl up into him, give him something more substantial than a pillow to hold on to. Theo seemed like the kind of man who had been alone for a long time and didn’t have the will to change, at least not without a push. Harper and Flynn could be that push. Glancing over at Flynn on the other side of the bed, she wondered if their connection might ever progress to a point where she’d leave the bed in the morning and Flynn or Theo would instinctively move toward each other to fill the gap. The image gave her a tight, unsettling feeling in her chest, and Harper was renewed with purpose. If she could help it, neither of the two wonderful men would ever feel lonely again.

Moving slowly, attempting not to wake the two, she slipped from between them and out of bed, first making a much-needed pit stop in the bathroom, then making her way to the kitchen. It was early, not six yet, but she needed coffee and was starving. Slightly familiar with the layout of Theo’s kitchen from staying there the previous evening, she searched for some simple ingredients to make breakfast. It was the least she could do to thank the guys for a hell of an evening, and she was a bit chagrined she hadn’t been able to stay awake for more.
